In many ways, baobab (pronounced BAY-oh-bab) is one of the most “super” superfoods. An African fruit, baobab is exceptionally rich in vitamins, fiber and prebiotics and deserves a spot in your daily routine.
Baobab is affordable, easy to use and tastes great once you learn how to use it!
All About Baobab
What is baobab good for?
Immune Support. Baobab has crazy amounts of vitamins like Vitamin C. (4x more than oranges!)
Rich in antioxidants, which can help with inflammation. Baobab has double the antioxidants of goji and more antioxidants than açaí, pomegranate and berries.
Gut health. Baobab is rich in prebiotic fibers, which are beneficial for healthy gut bacteria and optimizing your gut microbiome.
High in soluble fiber, baobab has 5g per 100g serving (even more than psyllium). The high quantity of fiber can be helpful to curb appetite.
What does baobab powder taste like?
Baobab has a unique flavor that can be compared to a mix of tropical fruits and tart citrus. It pairs wonderfully with lemon!
How to take baobab
Baobab can be used in baked goods like bread and muffins and desserts, but the easiest and quickest way to include baobab everyday is by mixing it in a drink.
Where to Buy Baobab Powder
I’ve heard some Wal-Marts carry baobab, but I can never find it! I order baobab online at Amazon. It seems like there are new brands popping up all the time, but the brands I’ve personally used and trust are Livfit Baobab Powder and Terrasoul Baobab Powder.
How to Make Baobab Drinks
You have so many options to make drinks with baobab! Here are a few simple ideas to show you how easy it can be to include this superfruit in your everyday routine.
Baobab Water Recipe
Baobab water is as simple as it gets: mix 1-2 tablespoon of baobab powder with 2-3 cups water and stevia to taste. Similarly, you can also mix it with prepared juices like cranberry, but be wary of added sugar!
“Boost Juice” Recipe
Add fresh lemon juice to Baobab Water, and you’ve got what Trim Healthy Mama calls Boost Juice. I personally prefer this vs plain baobab water.
Tip: If I’m not making a blender smoothie, I like to use a blender bottle or immersion blender to mix baobab into liquid. Simply stirring, even with a fork, doesn’t really mix it well.
Smoothies with Baobab
If you’re a fan of smoothies that would taste good with a hint of citrus, your smoothie will taste great with baobab! Think smoothies with coconut water, tropical fruits or citrus and even plain vanilla. To include baobab, just add one to two tablespoons to your smoothie recipe and blend.
Baobab with Fresh Juice
Adding baobab powder to fresh, healthy juice I make at home is my very favorite way to include a serving of baobab every day. To prepare, I make my juice as usual, then shake it with baobab in a blender bottle.

All in, my daily fresh juice habit only takes five minutes of my morning, including cleaning the juicer.
I’ve had the crazy affordable Breville Compact Juice Fountain for years, and I still love it. One of my favorite things about this juicer is how fast and simple it is to clean. Bonus: It doesn’t take up any more room on the counter than a blender!

5 Tips to Make Drinking Baobab a Habit
Make it obvious.
Keep baobab in a prominent place you will see it. A good example is next to your water bottle, juicer or blender – however and wherever you plan to most often drink it.
Make it ridiculously easy.
Keep a measuring spoon right in the bag so you’re not fishing for a tablespoon in your drawers or waiting for the dishwasher cycle to complete. If you use a blender bottle or blender ball to mix, have an extra on hand so one is always clean and ready to go.
Add baobab to something you already drink.
Baobab is more versatile than you think! Try adding it to a drink you already enjoy daily. Always drink lemon water right when you wake up? That’s a perfect place to tack on a baobab habit. (The fancy term for this technique is habit stacking.)
Journal.
Simply write a “checkmark” for each day you supplement with baobab, or better yet, keep a health journal where you note all of the supplements you take. (If you already do this, just add baobab to the list!)
Get a “Habit Girlfriend” aka lifestyle accountability partner.
Sharing personal goals such as consistency taking vitamins and supplements with an accountability partner can be life changing. The best accountability partners are not someone close to you in your daily life, which makes them hard to find.
My goal with Habit Girlfriend is to build a friendly network of women who are working on lifestyle habits and want the support and accountability from other women doing the same.
Lifestyle habits you work on with an accountability partner can be just about ANYTHING. (And your goals don’t need to be the same as your partners.) Goals around sleep, work, nutrition, weight, fitness, productivity, and relationships are common, but there really is no limit!
If you’re interested in this concept, get on the waiting list to receive updates. (Just write “Waiting List” in the subject line.) I can’t wait to hear from you!
Once I get enough interest, I will launch a FREE Facebook group where “Habit Girlfriends” can meet each other and pair up as lifestyle accountability partners. Everyone deserves access to life-changing accountability!
